Abou Amara

Abou Amara joined Gustafson Gluek PLLC as an associate in August 2021, after clerking for Associate Justice Anne K. McKeig and Associate Justice Paul C. Thissen of the Minnesota Supreme Court.

Since joining the Firm, Abou has represented individuals and small businesses alleging antitrust, business litigation, contract, consumer, constitutional violations in both state and federal court. Abou has also brought many civil rights and employment cases into the Firm, including successfully resolving one of the first sexual harassment suits under the new Minnesota law that exempts sexual harassment settlement from state tax, and successfully resolving a public accommodations civil rights case rooted in protecting Minnesotans breastfeeding rights.

Since joining the Bar, Abou has received a multitude of awards for his excellent legal practice, including being named to Minnesota Monthly’s 2024 list of Top Lawyers in Minnesota, a repeat Minnesota “Rising Star” by Super Lawyers Magazine, an Up and Coming Attorney by Minnesota Lawyer Magazine, and named the 2021-2022 Outstanding New Lawyer of the Year award by the Minnesota State Bar Association. 

In 2023, Abou was chosen by Minnesota’s two U.S. Senators, Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith, to serve on the Federal Judicial Selection Committee, a panel formed to provide recommendations to the Senators on who should the President of the United States should appoint  to be the next United States District Court Judge for the District of Minnesota.  In addition to his practice, Abou is the 2024-2025 Co-Chair of the Minnesota Chapter of the Federal Bar Association’s Legal Education Committee and has previously served as Vice President and Treasurer of the Minnesota Association of Black Lawyers.

Abou received his Juris Doctorate from the University of St. Thomas and his Masters in Public Policy from the University of Minnesota’s Humbert H. Humphrey School of Public Affairs.  During law school, Abou was a two-time National Moot Court individual champion—earning the “Best Oralist” award at both the 2018 William E. McGee National Moot Court Competition on Civil Rights and the 2019 Evan A. Evans National Moot Court Competition on Constitutional Law. Abou was also elected by his law school classmates to serve as commencement speaker.

Before law school, Abou had an extensive career in Congress and the Minnesota Legislature, including serving as a senior advisor to the Minnesota Speaker of the House. 

Abou remains a frequent TV commentator across Minnesota and National media on law, politics, and public affairs. Before clerking on the Minnesota Supreme Court, Abou was an associate attorney at a well-respected Minneapolis law firm.

  • Since joining Gustafson Gluek, Abou has represented individuals and businesses in a variety of antitrust, consumer protection, employment, and constitutional cases. He was recently appointed Interim Co-Lead Counsel in a class action case against Bank of America for its alleged illegal credit card and account opening practices. He has also been actively involved in the In re Granulated Sugar Antitrust Litig. (D. Minn.) and In re Pork Antitrust Litig. (D. Minn.).. In the former, he is representing a class of direct purchasers of sugar who allege antitrust violations against sugar producers, and, in the latter, he is representing a class of indirect consumer purchasers of pork who allege antitrust violations against pork producers.
