Gustafson Gluek Files Suit Against Amazon For Violating Biometric Privacy Law

Gustafson Gluek PLLC has filed suit with co-counsel Wexler Wallace LLP and Stephan Zouras LLP against Amazon.com for violating Illinois' landmark biometric privacy law by collecting facial data associated with photos uploaded to the company's photo storage service and secretly using it to maintain and enhance its facial recognition technology.

The lawsuit claims the facial recognition technology in the company's photo storage service available to Amazon Prime members unlawfully fails to inform Illinois users before it collects the facial geometry in photos on its platform.

The suit seeks to represent a class of similarly situated Illinois residents whose biometric facial data was scanned, collected, otherwise obtained and used by Amazon from photographs that another person uploaded to the company's photo service.
