Gustafson Gluek Honors Juneteenth and Its Spirit of Freedom and Justice for All
Juneteenth commemorates the day— June 19,1865— that news of emancipation reached the last of the enslaved African Americans in Texas, which took over two years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. Six months later, on December 6, 1865, emancipation for African American people was enshrined in our Constitution with the ratification of the 13th Amendment, which constitutionally banned chattel slavery and involuntary servitude in every corner of the United States.
While Juneteenth has monumental importance, it was not until recently that its significance began to receive broader national recognition. In 2021, President Biden signed a bill establishing Juneteenth as a federal holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. Since then, every state now, in some way, recognizes Juneteenth.
Gustafson Gluek PLLC will be closed on Thursday, June 19, 2025, in recognition of the Juneteenth holiday. We take this opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to our DEI efforts, and urge the community to come together in challenging racial inequality and continuing the work towards freedom and justice for all.
