Pro Se Project 10-Year Report
Gustafson Gluek is proud to be a part of the Minnesota Federal Pro Se Project.
Below is a message from Pro Se Project coordinator Tiffany Sanders.
The Pro Se Project recently celebrated a significant milestone: 10 years of improving access to justice in the District of Minnesota. The Pro Se Project is an important initiative of the U.S. District Court, District of Minnesota, and the Minnesota Chapter of the Federal Bar Association to improve access to the federal court system and address the unique challenges of civil pro se litigants.
When a pro se litigant appears in federal court, the district judge or magistrate judge presiding over the case exercises discretion in referring the litigant to the Pro SeProject. The goal of the Pro Se Project is to provide civil pro se litigants who receive such a referral with an opportunity to consult with a volunteer attorney.
The Pro Se Project’s tenth anniversary provided a terrific opportunity to reflect on the Project’s accomplishments and to celebrate its contributions to the Court, the community, and the administration of justice. Through the generosity of more than 500 volunteer lawyers from 160 participating law firms, the Pro Se Project worked with nearly 1,400 civil pro se litigants during its first decade.
The linked decennial report, THE PRO SE PROJECT, 10 YEARS OF ENHANCING ACCESS TO JUSTICE, 2009 – 2019, provides an overview of the Pro Se Project and includes impact stories, quotes, and a list of the generous lawyers who made the Pro SeProject’s first decade of service possible. I hope you will enjoy reading about the Pro SeProject, the meaningful work of the volunteer attorneys, and the Pro Se Project’s efforts to help level the playing field of justice.
